Third Quadripartite Forum on Emergency Response Management held in Hong Kong (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Third Quadripartite Forum on Emergency Response Management was held at the Central Government Offices in Hong Kong today (March 10). Representatives of emergency management authorities and organisations from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan took part in the forum to share experience and knowledge of their work.

The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, said in his opening remarks that extreme weather conditions associated with global warming would bring about an increased risk of disasters. That, coupled with disasters such as fires, air crashes, shipwrecks and large-scale industrial accidents, compelled governments to strengthen their capabilities in handling emergency situations in order to minimise losses and chaos as well as to safeguard and protect lives and property. Given the proximity of the four places, close co-operation of the emergency management organisations would be of paramount importance to an effective response in the event of an emergency situation affecting the region, he said.

The first Forum on Emergency Response Management took place in 2010. Experts and academics from the four places are invited to discuss their expertise and experience at the Forum. The theme this year is "New Challenges and Solutions to Emergency Response Management in the Region".
