About 6 400 vacancies on offer at Mong Kok Job Expo
***************************************************

The Labour Department will hold the Mong Kok Job Expo at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok on March 12 and 13.

With the theme of "Building a Multi-culture Workplace", the Expo aims to provide a convenient platform to enhance the employment opportunities of job seekers, in particular the ethnic minorities, and promote their awareness of the services of the Labour Department.

A total of 93 organisations will participate in the Expo. Forty-two participating organisations will set up counters and conduct on-the-spot recruitment each day. They mainly come from the catering, retail, community and social services, transport and property management industries, offering about 6 400 vacancies for job seekers of diverse cultural backgrounds.

In addition, nine training and social services organisations will provide information on training courses and support services to ethnic minorities. Exhibition materials to introduce the services of the Labour Department will also be displayed in a mini-exhibition. Moreover, some job advertisements with openings that may be suitable for ethnic minority job seekers have also been selected for display. Instantaneous translation services for Hindi, Urdu and Nepalese speakers have been arranged.

The vacancies offered by participating employers cover a wide variety of positions such as interpreter, clerk, customer services officer, technician, room attendant, personal care worker, salesperson, cashier, shop assistant, barista, cook, waiter/waitress, storekeeper, security guard, driver, cleaner and others. Job seekers can find more information on the department's Interactive Employment Service website (www.jobs.gov.hk).

Around 72 per cent of the vacancies are full-time jobs. Most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $8,000 to $15,000. Over 98 per cent of the vacancies require a Secondary Six education level or below. Around 73 per cent are open to job seekers who may lack relevant experience.

Job seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews. They can also register for employment services at the Labour Department's counter.

The Expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at MacPherson Stadium, 1/F, 38 Nelson Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon (MTR Mong Kok Station Exit E2). Admission is free.
