Correctional officers stop fighting among remand persons in custody

     Correctional officers stopped a fight between a male remand person in custody and four other male remand persons in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (March 7).

     At 1.27pm, the fight broke out between a 27-year-old remand person in custody and another remand person in custody over trivial matter inside a dayroom. Three other remand persons in custody later joined to attack the 27-year-old person in custody. The four remand persons in custody are aged between 21 and 29.  An officer at scene immediately tried to stop the fight but in vain and called for reinforcement.

     Reinforcement staff quickly arrived and separated the five involved. All remand persons in custody were taken to the centre hospital for examination.  The 27-year-old person in custody was injured on his head and arm. He was sent to the centre hospital for examination and later referred to a public hospital for treatment.  He was treated and discharged and back to the institution.  Another 27-year-old remand person in custody sustained slight injury on his neck.  The other three were not injured. An officer sustained slight injury on his hand during the intervention of the fight.

     The case has been reported to Police for investigation.

     The 27-year-old person in custody was remanded for offence of conspiracy to defraud.  The other four were remanded for offences of trafficking in dangerous drugs or burglary.
