Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 5) seized about 10 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine at Lok Ma Chau Control Point. The market value of the drugs seized was about $4 million.
Customs officers intercepted an incoming private car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday afternoon and found the suspected drugs in a handbag inside the car. The male driver and a male passenger were arrested at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested another man suspected to be involved in the case in Kwun Tong.
The three men, aged 44, 48 and 58 who claimed to be unemployed, a driver, and a worker respectively, were arrested for suspected drug trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case is still under investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
