A person in custody collapsed in Tai Lam Correctional Institution and died in a public hospital today (March 6).
The 71-year-old male person in custody was suffering from hypertension and required follow-up by the medical officer in the institution. At about 6.22am, officers found him collapsed in the toilet of the dormitory. He was immediately examined and treated by the institutional medical staff and was subsequently referred to a public hospital for emergency rescue. He was certified dead at 7.30am.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for blackmail.
