********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is holding the Urban Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Piazza tonight (March 5) in celebration of the Spring Lantern Festival. Visitors are flocking to the carnival to enjoy spectacular lantern displays, boisterous entertainment and colourful shows.

The HKCC Piazza tonight is decorated with a thematic lantern display entitled "Double Happiness", which features the traditional wedding customs of various Asian countries and regions. Running until March 22, the lantern display has become a popular spot for photo-taking and has created a joyful ambience at the carnival.

Another highlight is "Intangible Cultural Heritage - Exhibition on Craftsmanship of Lantern Making", organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The display will run until March 10 and features a lantern depicting three rams and the God of Fortune.

Carnival-goers are also enjoying ethnic performances by the Shanxi Arts Troupe, as well as Cantonese opera excerpts, huqin performances, dragon dances, a Chinese folk crafts demonstration and a lantern quiz.

A new programme, "Youth Night", will be held tomorrow (March 6) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the same venue to enhance the festive celebration. "Youth Night" will showcase Chinese orchestral music, a drumming performance and Korean and Japanese pop covers and dance.
