Director of Fire Services saddened by death of Mr Tsang Kwong-yu

     The Director of Fire Services, Mr Lai Man-hin, today (February 22) expressed profound sadness at the passing of Mr Tsang Kwong-yu, former Director of Fire Services, and offered deepest condolences to his family on behalf of colleagues of the Fire Services Department (FSD).

     Mr Tsang joined the Government as an Assistant Station Officer in March 1964. He was promoted to Chief Fire Officer in July 1992 and to Deputy Director of Fire Services in October 1995. He was appointed Director of Fire Services in November 1998 and retired in January 2001. Mr Tsang was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2000 for his distinguished and dedicated service in the FSD for 37 years.
 
     In addition, Mr Tsang was the President of the Institution of Fire Engineers (Hong Kong Branch) from 1998 to 2000. In recognition of his contribution to the development of fire engineering and the programme of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Fire Engineering, he had been awarded Honorary Fellow of the University of Central Lancashire, the United Kingdom, and Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (Head Office) respectively.
 
     Mr Tsang had rendered significant contribution to the advancement of fire services and fire engineering over the years. Mr Lai and colleagues of the FSD were deeply saddened by Mr Tsang's passing and sent condolences to his family. The Fire Services Welfare Office has also liaised with Mr Tsang's family to offer any required assistance.
