Lunar New Year lantern display "Double Happiness" lights up Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza (with photos)
************************************************************

The Lunar New Year lantern display "Double Happiness", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is lighting up Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Admission is free.

Under this year's theme "Double Happiness", the lantern display is showcasing the traditional wedding customs of various Asian countries and regions including Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. To celebrate the Year of the Sheep, cartoon-style sheep-themed lanterns have been designed to add even greater colour to the festive display.

Standing on the piazza is a lianli tree with intertwined branches spreading across two pools to form a giant gate. The tree, which symbolises eternal love, is decorated with red lanterns. Together with a large three-dimensional installation of the Chinese character for "Double Happiness", the tree adds a romantic touch to the event.

Additionally, pairs of decorative sheep lanterns dressed in a variety of ethnic Asian wedding costumes greet visitors in front of Asian country landmarks such as Bali's Diamond Chapel (Indonesia), Vietnam's Notre Dame Cathedral, a castle in Uzbekistan and Turkey's Galata Tower, filling the piazza with a joyful ambience.

The Lunar New Year lantern display "Double Happiness" will run until March 22. For more details, please visit the website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/eo/territoryevents/lunarnewyearlantern/lunarnewyearlantern2015.html or call 2591 1340.
