Update on clusters of infectious diseases cases in New Territories West Cluster

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for New Territories West Cluster made the following update today (February 19):

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a male Orthopaedics and Traumatology ward at Tuen Mun Hospital, the hospital has performed contact tracing in accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines and confirmed one more 78-year-old male patient as VRE carrier. The patient is being hospitalised under isolation in stable condition.

     Besides, regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A (H3) in a male psychiatric ward for intellectual disability at Castle Peak Hospital, one more 56-year-old patient in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests has been arranged for the patient and the test result was positive to Influenza A (H3). The concerned patient is being hospitalised under isolation in stable condition.

     The two hospitals will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the wards. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health for necessary follow-up.
