Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a male Orthopaedics and Traumatology ward, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following update today (February 18):

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing. One more 69-year-old male patient has been confirmed as a VRE carrier. The patient is being hospitalised under isolation and is in a stable condition.

     The hospital will continue enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation on the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
