The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, visited the Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DAC) in New Delhi, India, today (February 16) to enhance exchanges and co-operation with India's legal and dispute resolution sector.
Established in 2009 by the High Court of Delhi, the DAC was an institution to facilitate and encourage litigating parties to take recourse to arbitration as their chosen mode for settlement of disputes. The centre ensures effective settlement of disputes by arbitration, which is cost- and time-effective. Since its inauguration, more than 700 cases have been referred to the centre.
Mr Yuen was briefed on the DAC's operation and facilities by the Sitting Judge of the High Court of Delhi, Mr Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
In the last day of his visit to New Delhi today, Mr Yuen also met with the Minister for Law and Justice of India, Mr Shri D V Sadananda Gowda, to enhance legal co-operation and exchanges between Hong Kong and India.
Hong Kong has established strong relationships with India on mutual co-operation in criminal matters. In addition to the current bilateral agreements for Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Surrender of Fugitive Offenders, an agreement for Transfer of Sentenced Persons was also signed in January this year.
Mr Yuen also called on the Chinese Ambassador to India, Mr Le Yucheng, before returning to Hong Kong in the morning of February 17.
