Regarding earlier announcements by Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and Kowloon Hospital (KH) respectively on clusters of in-patients with infectious diseases, the spokesperson for Kowloon Central Cluster (KCC) made the following update today (February 13):

QEH has earlier announced a cluster of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) carriers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In accordance with prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed enhanced surveillance and one more one-month-old baby girl was confirmed as MRSA carrier. The baby is under isolation in stable condition. The hospital has stepped up the infection control measures in the ward concerned and the Hospital Infection Control Team will continue to closely monitor the situation.

On the other hand, KH has earlier announced that some patients of a male Rehabilitation Ward had been confirmed with Influenza A (H3) virus. The hospital today confirmed one more 92-year-old patient was positive to Influenza A (H3) virus. The concerned patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition. Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
