******************************************

The Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft Pak Lap Outline Zoning Plan (OZP).

"The approved OZP seeks to provide a statutory land use planning framework to protect the natural and rural character of the Pak Lap area which complements the overall naturalness and landscape beauty of the surrounding Sai Kung East Country Park, and make provision for future Small House development for the indigenous villagers of Pak Lap," a spokesman for the Town Planning Board said today (February 13).

The approved Pak Lap Outline Zoning Plan covers a total area of about 6.8 hectares. It is located at the southern coast of Sai Kung Peninsula and is enclosed by Sai Kung East Country Park, with its south side opening towards the scenic Pak Lap Wan.

About 0.98 hectares of land is zoned "Village Type Development" to reflect the existing recognised village of Pak Lap and provide land considered suitable for village expansion.

Two sites of about 0.02 hectares in total area are zoned "Government, Institution or Community" to reflect an existing temple and reserve land for provision of a Government refuse collection point and a public convenience to serve the needs of local residents and tourists.

About 2.39 hectares of land are zoned "Agriculture" to retain fallow arable land with good potential for rehabilitation for cultivation and other agricultural purposes.

The wooded areas of about 3.41 hectares in total area at the periphery of Pak Lap are zoned "Conservation Area" to protect and retain the existing natural landscape, ecological or topographical features of the area for conservation, educational and research purposes and to separate sensitive natural environment such as Country Park from the adverse effects of development.

The approved Pak Lap Outline Zoning Plan No. S/SK-PL/2 is now available for public inspection during office hours at the Secretariat of the Town Planning Board, the Planning Enquiry Counters of the Planning Department in North Point and Sha Tin, the Sai Kung and Islands District Planning Office, the Sai Kung District Office and the Sai Kung Rural Committee.

Copies of the approved plan are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. The electronic version of the plan can be viewed on the Town Planning Board's website at www.info.gov.hk/tpb.
