LegCo Secretariat conducts user survey on simultaneous sign language interpretation service
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council (LegCo) Secretariat announced that as part of its service enhancement efforts, it has launched today (February 9) a user survey on the provision of simultaneous sign language (SSL) interpretation service for the Council. The on-line or printed survey questionnaire can be accessed on the LegCo Website at app.legco.gov.hk/Survey/1.aspx?language=EN. The survey will last until March 6.

To promote barrier-free communication, the LegCo Secretariat has since January 2013 provided SSL interpretation for all Council meetings to facilitate persons with hearing impairment to understand the work and the proceedings of the Council. Apart from such regular service, SSL interpretation has also been provided upon request for meetings of LegCo committees at which the agenda items under discussions are of particular interest to people with disabilities, including those with hearing impairment.

At present, SSL interpretation is broadcast live through the video webcasting system of LegCo for public viewing. TV signal on SSL interpretation has also been provided to TV broadcasters.

The LegCo Secretariat would appreciate valuable input from the hearing impaired community to help improve the service.
