Appointment of Executive Director to Securities and Futures Commission

     The Government announced today (February 6) the appointment of Ms Julia Leung as Executive Director (Investment Products) of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for three years from March 2, 2015 to March 1, 2018.

     The appointment was made by the Financial Secretary with the authority delegated from the Chief Executive under the Securities and Futures Ordinance.

     A government spokesman said, "Ms Julia Leung was selected through an open recruitment exercise by a selection panel chaired by the Chairman of the SFC. She will head the Investment Products Division. We are confident that Ms Leung will contribute towards the efficient performance of the SFC's statutory functions, in particular regarding the authorisation and supervision of investment products."

     Before joining the SFC, Ms Leung was an advisor of three policy and academic institutes. She was the Under Secretary for the Financial Services and the Treasury from 2008 to 2013, and the Head of External Relations Division/Executive Director (External) of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority between 1994 and 2008.

     "We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Mrs Alexa Lam for her dedicated service to the SFC and, in particular, her contribution to promoting financial co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong. Her efforts have been conducive to promoting Hong Kong as the key financial market of the Mainland and an international financial centre," the spokesman said. Mrs Lam will retire on February 28, 2015.
