French art photography gallery sets up base in Hong Kong (with photos)
*********************************************************

French art space La Galerie announced today (February 4) that its first Asian gallery will open in Hong Kong tomorrow (February 5), with the debut exhibition to feature some of Picasso's original photographs and prints.

Dedicated to art photographs and prints, La Galerie is located in Hong Kong's art hot spot on Hollywood Road in Central. Especially for both established and new artists to showcase their works, La Galerie also serves as a networking platform for art lovers.

Co-founder Ms Marie-Florence Gros said, "Asia's art market has been booming over the past decade and many international galleries have already established a presence in Hong Kong. We didn't want to miss the opportunity and we found that there were not many galleries specialised in art photography in Hong Kong. There is a niche for us to develop this market in the city."

Mr Cyril Delettre, also a co-founder of the gallery, added, "Hong Kong is right in the heart of the Asian art scene and we appreciate the energy driving the city. This is one reason why we decided to base La Galerie here and will have all our operations, including sourcing, marketing and retail, done from the city."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Mr Andrew Davis welcomed the opening of La Galerie in Hong Kong and said, "Hong Kong provides great access to a large number of high net worth individuals in Asia-Pacific, which has added to the buoyancy of Hong Kong's art market. Together with its well-established transport and logistics networks, world-class business infrastructure and deep pool of art talent, it is the ideal place to start a business in art."
