SCED to promote Hong Kong in Japan

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (January 25) for a four-day visit to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, to promote Hong Kong's tourism and business opportunities.

     During his stay in Tokyo, Mr So will attend a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) in which he will join representatives of the tourism sector to promote Hong Kong as a safe and hospitable tourist destination for Japanese visitors. He will also visit the Tokyo Disney Resort for briefings on the experience of expansions of the theme park.

     Mr So will pay a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Mr Cheng Yonghua. He will also take the opportunity to meet with the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Mr Yosuke Takagi, to exchange views on bilateral trade and economic issues.

     On January 27, Mr So will depart for Osaka, where he will visit Knowledge Capital to learn about its experience as a hub for nurturing knowledge creation activities. He will also address the opening of the "Think Global, Think Hong Kong" symposium organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and meet with Hong Kong people in the Kansai area.

     The Commissioner for Tourism, Miss Cathy Chu, will accompany Mr So to attend the HKTB event and the visit to Tokyo Disney Resort.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong in the evening of January 28. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
