Electors urged to vote in 2015 Kaifong Representative Election
******************************************************

The 2015 Kaifong Representative Election (KFRE) will be held this Sunday (January 25) on Cheung Chau and Peng Chau. The Home Affairs Department (HAD) has called on registered electors to vote in the election.

The polling stations in Cheung Chau and Peng Chau will be open to electors from 9am to 8pm. The Cheung Chau polling station is located at Cheung Chau Sports Centre, No. 3 Cheung Chau Hospital Road, Cheung Chau, while the Peng Chau polling station is located at Peng Chau Sports Centre, Peng Chau Municipal Services Building, 6 Po Peng Street, Peng Chau.

A spokesman for the HAD said, "This will be the first statutory KFRE to be held in accordance with the newly amended Rural Representative Election Ordinance (Chapter 576). The HAD attaches great importance to the election and has stepped up promotions to help electors better understand the voting procedures. Electors have been issued a guide on voting procedures together with the polling notice 10 days before the polling day, specifying the date, time and place of the poll. We will also make available additional ballot paper issuing desks, voting compartments and electoral staff at the polling station. To assist electors in need, some voting compartments will be equipped with chairs."

The HAD has also held mock polls on Peng Chau and Cheung Chau to help electors familiarise themselves with the voting procedures. All electors need to do on the polling day is show their polling notices and identity documents at the polling station where they will be issued a ballot paper, use the chop to stamp a tick on the ballot paper in the circle opposite to the name(s) of the chosen candidate(s), and put the marked ballot paper into the envelope provided before putting it into the ballot box.

The spokesman said, "We urge eligible electors to actively participate in the poll. With the supervision of the Electoral Affairs Commission and assistance from other government departments, we believe the election will be held in an open, fair and honest manner."

There are over 9 000 registered electors and 89 candidates in the upcoming election competing for 56 seats.
