The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences in 2008, Professor Paul Krugman, at Government House this evening (January 20) to discuss economic and financial issues.
Mr Leung introduced to Professor Krugman the policy direction of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government on economic development. He said that the current-term Government is committed to consolidating and enhancing the existing advantages of Hong Kong to diversify the economy and to deepen and expand our industries.
On financial services, Mr Leung said that the HKSAR Government would continue to promote the development of offshore Renminbi business in Hong Kong and further enhance the city's role in linking the Mainland and the global market to contribute to the economic development of our country.
