The spokesperson for Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) made the following update today (January 17) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a male medicine ward:
The hospital has stepped up the screening procedures and one more patient, aged 80, is confirmed as carrier of MDRA today but without clinical symptoms. The patient is under medical surveillance and isolation at Shatin Hospital with stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
