The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients in a female medical and geriatric ward at Lai King Building infected with Influenza A, the spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital made the following update today (January 17):
One more female patient, aged 85, had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patient and the test result was positive to Influenza A. The concerned patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition.
The hospital has stepped up the infection control measures in the ward and conditions of the other patients are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
