Hong Kong Police and the National Police of the Netherlands signed a Letter of Intent on Combating International Crime
************************************************************

The Commissioner of the Hong Kong Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, today (January 16) in Hong Kong signed, on behalf of the Hong Kong Police, a Letter of Intent with the Commissioner of the National Police of the Netherlands, Mr Gerard Bouman.

This is the first agreement signed between the Hong Kong Police and the National Police of the Netherlands since the latter consolidated into a single national police force in January 2013.  The Letter of Intent covers various areas of policing and it marks an important milestone in strengthening the cooperation and partnership between the two organisations.

ˇ§Looking ahead, I am confident that, by signing this Letter of Intent, the collaboration between our two organisations will help to ensure that we operate at the cutting edge of policing.  Working together, we place ourselves in a much more advantageous position in meeting new challenges,ˇ¨ said Mr Tsang at the signing ceremony.

Commissioner Bouman remarked that, ˇ§Hong Kong, China has all along been a strategic partner of the Netherlands Police.  In recognition of the globalised nature of crimes including terrorism, drugs, money laundering and cyber crime, the Netherlands Police is committed to the ever-rising need for stronger international police cooperation.ˇ¨

Apart from signing the Letter of Intent, Commissioner Bouman and his delegation also visited the Police College and the Marine Region of Police during their stay in Hong Kong between January 15 and 17.  The signing of the Letter of Intent and the visit have fortified a strong foundation for cooperation between the two organisations and paved the way for a closer working relationship.
