Wi-Fi service to be extended to Kowloon City and Fanling Magistrates' Courts

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary announced today (January 9) that Wi-Fi service will be extended to cover the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts and the Fanling Magistrates' Courts with effect from January 19.

     With the launch of the service at these two Magistrates' Courts, the public areas of all court buildings will be equipped with Wi-Fi service. Such service was first introduced in the Wanchai Law Courts in February 2014 and later extended to cover other court buildings in phrases.

     With effect from January 19, court users, including members of the public, will be able to use Wi-Fi service in the public areas, including the courtrooms, of the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts and the Fanling Magistrates' Courts.

     Such use would include the use in a suitable manner of text-based communications in courtrooms. In this connection, the Judiciary earlier issued Practice Direction 32 and Notice to Court Users on the use of information technology and text-based communications in courtrooms.
