Crane operator fined for violation of safety rule

A crane operator was fined $12,000 at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (January 8) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on November 19, 2013, in Kwai Chung. The spreader of a travelling rubber-tyred gantry crane hit a stack of containers and caused the collapse of several containers onto a vehicle below, resulting in the death of a worker inside the vehicle and injury to the driver.
