************************************************************

The Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Paul Chan, and the Executive Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Mr Lu Ruifeng, convened the first meeting of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Joint Task Force on Boundary District and Lok Ma Chau Loop Development in Shenzhen today (January 6).

Based on an agreement between the Shenzhen and Hong Kong authorities at the Hong Kong/Shenzhen Co-operation Meeting in November 2013, the function of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Joint Task Force on Boundary District Development will be enhanced in a bid to speed up development of the Lok Ma Chau Loop. It will be responsible for deliberations, discussions and decision-making on major issues concerning the Lok Ma Chau Loop, including its development, operation and management. The two sides have also agreed to rename the task force as the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Joint Task Force on Boundary District and Lok Ma Chau Loop Development.

At the meeting today, the task force discussed and endorsed its work rules. It was briefed on the progress of the Lok Ma Chau Loop development before discussing the way forward of its work.

The task force was also briefed on the latest progress of the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP) project. Both sides agreed to keep the target of opening the new BCP not later than 2018.

The Shenzhen and Hong Kong governments are confident in taking forward the work for development of the Lok Ma Chau Loop. They are pleased to note that the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai BCP project has made substantive progress. Both sides hope to continue working closely for the projects.
