EDB and LCSD to co-organise student sessions at "Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches" exhibition for first time (with photo)

The Education Bureau (EDB) is collaborating with the Hong Kong Heritage Museum of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) to arrange special visiting sessions for students, including professional guided tours and free shuttle rides, during the "Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches" exhibition, to enhance students' interest in learning Chinese history and culture.

The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, today (January 5) said, "The EDB and the museums under the LCSD have worked closely for many years, co-organising teacher seminars and workshops, as well as publishing related teaching materials for various exhibitions in the past. We are now taking a step forward in arranging special student sessions for the first time.

"The Dunhuang exhibits and stories are very vivid and interesting. The participation of teachers and students can revitalise the education of Chinese history and Chinese culture, arousing students' interest in learning Chinese history. The EDB will continue to collaborate with the LCSD in providing more holistic, lively and interesting opportunities for students to study history."

The exhibition is being held until March 16. Visiting sessions will be open to all upper primary and secondary students in the afternoons (1pm to 6pm) on the Tuesdays of February 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3 and 10 (six days in total). Schools are encouraged to make applications and may apply for guided tours and shuttle services as needed. The guided tours will be arranged in three time slots (1.30pm to 3pm, 2.30pm to 4pm and 3.30pm to 5pm). Altogether there will be 54 tours with three tours for every slot. On other exhibition days schools can also arrange visits for their students and apply for exemption of the admission charges as well as the guided tour service for groups with a minimum of 20 students, but no shuttle service will be provided.

To tie in with this activity, the Curriculum Development Institute of the EDB and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will co-organise a seminar (Course ID: CDI020141370) for teachers about learning Chinese history from multiple perspectives through the Dunhuang exhibition viewing. This will enhance teachers' skills in planning visits to the exhibition. Teachers can enroll on the seminar to be held on January 13 through the EDB's training calendar.

For further details, schools should refer to the EDB's circular as well as the facsimile with application forms which were sent to all secondary and primary schools in January.
