SHA visits polling station of Rural Representative Election (with photos)
************************************************************

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (January 4) visited the 2015 Rural Representative Election (RRE) polling station in Tai Po.

The 2015 RRE is the first RRE held since the Village Representative Election Ordinance has been amended as Rural Representative Election Ordinance. The Ordinance now covers two types of rural representatives to be elected in accordance with the law, namely the Village Representatives and the Kaifong Representatives.

"The election could not have commenced successfully without the unfailing support of various parties. Besides regulating the Village Representative Election (VRE), the amended Ordinance effectively enhances the electoral system by regulating the Cheung Chau and Peng Chau Kaifong Representative Election (KRE) which has a long history in Hong Kong," Mr Tsang said.

The 2015 VRE is being held on three consecutive Sundays on January 4, January 11 and January 18 this year while the KRE will be held on January 25.
