Electors urged to vote in 2015 Village Representative Election
******************************************************

The Home Affairs Department (HAD) today (January 2) called on registered electors to vote in the 2015 Village Representative Election (VRE), which will start this Sunday (January 4).

The polling will be held from noon to 7pm on three consecutive Sundays on January 4, 11 and 18. Electors will receive a polling notice issued by the HAD 10 days before the polling day specifying the date, time and place of the poll. Details can also be found on the Rural Representative website (www.had.gov.hk/rre).

A spokesman for the HAD said, "Electors are required to bring along the relevant polling notice and their identity documents to the designated polling station on the specified election date for their village. The Government appeals to all eligible electors to actively participate in the polls.

"The HAD attaches great importance to the integrity, fairness and smooth operation of the election," the spokesman said. "With the supervision of the Electoral Affairs Commission and assistance from other government departments, we believe the election will be held in an open, fair and honest manner."

There are nearly 190,000 registered electors and 1,779 candidates in the upcoming VRE. While 944 candidates have been returned uncontested, 835 candidates will compete for 420 seats.
