Update on cluster of patients infected with Influenza A (H3) virus at Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients and staff infected with Influenza A (H3) virus in a mixed ward for Clinical Oncology, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (January 1):
 
     Two more patients (69-year-old male and 65-year-old female) in the concerned ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results were positive to Influenza A (H3) virus. The patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
 
     Restricted visiting has been imposed and infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.
 
     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
