Update on cluster of Influenza A cases in Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for the Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok Hospital made the following update today (December 31) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients with Influenza A in two long-stay wards:

     Two more patients (a 56-year-old female and a 82-year-old male) in the long-stay wards had presented with fever and upper respiratory tract infection symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and the test results were positive for Influenza A.?The?patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.?

     Admission to the concerned wards have been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the concerned wards are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
