The Liaoning Liaison Unit (LLU) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) commenced operation today (December 29) to assist Hong Kong people and enterprises to better capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the rapid development of the northeastern region.

Located in Shenyang City of Liaoning Province, the LLU has been established under the purview of the Office of the HKSARG in Beijing (Beijing Office).

The Acting Director of the Beijing Office, Mr Tommy Yuen, said, "The LLU will strive to strengthen Hong Kong's connection with the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Shenyang Municipal Government by enhancing G2G (government-to-government) co-operation. It will also promote economic and trade relations, as well as provide support to Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the related areas."

The Chief Executive announced in his 2014 Policy Address the setting up of a liaison unit in the north under the Beijing Office. During the year, the Beijing Office has been in touch with the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Shenyang Municipal Government to make preparations for the establishment of the LLU.

In order to commence service as soon as possible, the LLU is initially operating from a business centre. The temporary office is located at Office 420-422, 4/F, Sofitel Shenyang Lido, 386 Qingnian Street, Heping District, Shenyang (Tel: (86 24) 2318 8123; Fax: (86 24) 2318 0575; Email: llu@bjo.gov.hk).
