Cluster of Influenza A cases in Cheshire Home Chung Hom Kok Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for the Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok Hospital made the following announcement today (December 27):

     Eleven patients (10 male and one female, aged 46 to 78) of two long stay wards (one male ward and one female ward) had presented with fever and upper respiratory tract infection symptoms since December 23. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation in stable condition.  

     Admission to the concerned wards have been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
