2014 New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival to be held in Sha Tin (with photos)
************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the 2014 New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and City Art Square to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. The carnival will start at 8.30pm on December 31 (Wednesday) and will continue until 12.15am on New Year's Day. Admission is free.

This year, the carnival will feature a theme of "Power for Future" and showcase a variety of performances by local groups and young talents. At the main stage, there will be pop music performances by the bands Patrick Tang x Tricks and Wondergarl in addition to energetic Latin dance, capoeira, K-pop, martial arts, marching band and percussion performances and more. Sharon Lee, Jonathan Yau, Phoenix Leung and the music groups Hi-Tone and Goin' Music will sing love songs at the City Art Square, adding a romantic touch to the event.

Artists from the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong will also entertain the public with performances including rap music by the band Unbelievable and pop singing by Siu Hoi-yan. Other attractions of the carnival will include a cappella, rope skipping, cheerleading and Chinese yo-yo performances.

There will also be demonstrations related to items of Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage such as dragon's beard candy, traditional "ding ding tong" candy, the popular snack "airplane olive" and traditional dough figurines. A giant puppet, clowns and other roving artists will parade at the venue, further contributing to a feast of fun for the countdown to the New Year. The show will reach its climax at midnight with a countdown ceremony to celebrate the advent of 2015.

The LCSD urges members of the public to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and glass bottles are prohibited at the venues.
