Police condemn protesters endangering public order and public safety
*******************************************************

Protesters gathered on various sections of roads, including Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Nathan Road, Tung Choi Street, Bute Street and Price Edward Road West in Mong Kok from last night (December 25) to the small hours of today (December 26). They blocked the roads and caused chaos and nuisance to the residents nearby. Police had made repeated public announcements and displayed warning banners at scene to urge them to leave the scene. Some people left after Police had recorded their personal details, but others refused to comply.  Police, with no other alternatives, took actions to disperse and arrest the protesters involved.

Police arrested 26 men and 11 women, aged between 13 and 76, for "disorderly conduct in public place" and "criminal damage", etc.

Police condemned the acts of nuisances of the protesters which disregarded safety of others and seriously endangered public order. Police reiterate that resolute enforcement actions will be taken to preserve public order and safeguard public safety.

Police reiterate that we respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. It is the policy of Police to facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order. Members of the public should comply with the laws of Hong Kong and maintain social order when expressing their views. They should refrain from conducting public meeting and procession by way of the so-called "mobile occupation".
