Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 466 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 38 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (December 19).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 260 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 387 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 79 for other traffic offences.

     Eleven pedestrians and 73 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,746 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year, of which 873 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 43.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
