The automatic weather station at the Kai Tak Runway Park opened today (December 17). The public can access the latest weather information from the station by a variety of means, including the Hong Kong Observatory's website and Dial-a-Weather service.

The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Shun Chi-ming, said, "The automatic weather station at the Kai Tak Runway Park not only enhances the regional weather information provided to people in Hong Kong, but also enables overseas visitors coming by cruise ships to receive useful temperature information. The setting up of the weather station at the Kai Tak Runway Park would not have been possible without the support and co-operation of the Kowloon City District Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)."

The Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council, Mr Lau Wai-wing, welcomed the establishment of the automatic weather station in the district. "With the opening of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Kai Tak has become a tourist and leisure hotspot in the Kowloon City District. Many local residents and overseas travellers go there to take part in various recreational activities. The temperature information from the new weather station is very useful for them to learn about the latest weather conditions at Kai Tak," he said.

The District Officer of the Kowloon City District, Mr William Tsui, said he was pleased to see the launch of the weather station at the Kai Tak Runway Park, providing district-based weather information to the public. "The Kowloon City District Office will continue to serve as a bridge to further improve various government services in the district," he said.

The District Leisure Manager (Kowloon City) of the LCSD, Ms Lo Lai-fong, said, "The Observatory's weather station at the Kai Tak Runway Park facilitates the public to access the latest temperature information in the vicinity of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal via the Observatory's website and its Dial-a-Weather service."

The Kai Tak Runway Park automatic weather station provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information from the Observatory's "Regional Weather" webpage (www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/display_graph_e.htm?se1&menu=otherwxi&rwx&addbar) and mobile version webpage (m.hko.gov.hk/wxreport/region.htm). They can also call the Observatory's "Dial-a-Weather" service at 187 8200.  "MyObservatory", the smartphone application, will also make available the real-time temperature information of the Kai Tak Runway Park automatic weather station in its next update.
