Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Hip Hing Engineering Company Limited and Hung Fat Construction Limited were fined $48,000 and $62,000 respectively at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (December 15) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on September 16 last year at a construction site in Tsing Yi. While he was climbing up a metal scaffold for erecting wooden formwork, a formworker fell over two metres onto some projecting steel starter bars and was impaled to death.
