The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance today (December 15) alerted the public to a fraudulent website with the website address "http://wing-lungins.com". The website purports to be the official website of Wing Lung Insurance Company Limited (Wing Lung), which is an authorised insurer of Hong Kong. Wing Lung has confirmed that it has no connection with the fraudulent website.
The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the website or has conducted any insurance transactions through the website should contact Wing Lung at 2309 5555 or any local police station.
Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorised insurers in Hong Kong can be found at www.oci.gov.hk/download/ins.pdf.
