******************************************************

The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, today (December 15) signed an air services agreement on behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) with the Government of the Republic of Madagascar.

Representing the Government of the Republic of Madagascar was the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Mr Ulrich Andriantiana.

The agreement provides a legal framework for establishing air links between Hong Kong and Madagascar, which will promote economic and cultural exchanges between the two places.

"The Government of the HKSAR welcomes the agreement, which is the 63rd signed by Hong Kong with overseas aviation partners. It is in the mutual interest of Hong Kong and Madagascar to establish direct air links between the two places," said Professor Cheung at the signing ceremony.

"With the signing of the agreement, we look forward to forging closer trade, economic and cultural relations with Madagascar. It is in line with our policy of progressive liberalisation in air services between Hong Kong and our aviation partners."

A list of countries that have signed air services agreements with Hong Kong is at Annex.
