The balloting of Group 1 Private Driving Instructors' (PDI) Test applications for private cars and light goods vehicles was completed smoothly today (December 13).

A Transport Department (TD) spokesman said, "The ballot result is available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk) and letters will be sent to individual applicants informing them of their ballot order numbers.  Applicants can also check the ballot results by calling 2804 2600 or visiting the Driving Services Section of the TD at 19 Pui Ching Road, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon during office hours from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays."

The TD will process the applications according to the ballot order. Written test invitations are expected to be sent to eligible applicants of the Group 1 PDI Test by post from around mid-January. Details of tests will be stated in the invitation letter. For applicants who fail to meet the qualification requirements, the TD will notify them in writing when their applications are dealt with according to the ballot order.

Meanwhile, acknowledgement letters have been sent to applicants for the Group 2 (private light bus, public light bus, private bus and public bus) and Group 3 (medium goods vehicle, heavy goods vehicle and articulated vehicle) PDI Test informing them of the receipt of their applications.

"An acknowledgement letter has been sent out to the applicant's address as registered under the TD and an individual application number is printed on the top right hand corner of the letter. If an applicant for a Group 2/Group 3 PDI Test does not receive the acknowledgement letter by December 19, they should contact the department at 2783 8890," a TD spokesman said.

"About 3 000 Group 2 PDI Test applications and about 1 500 Group 3 applications were received during the application period of October 17 to 31. As the number of applications exceeds the number of PDI Licences proposed to be issued for the respective group, the TD will hold a ballot to determine the order of processing the applications," the spokesman said.

The Group 2 and Group 3 ballot will be conducted on January 10, 2015 (Saturday) and letters will be sent to individual applicants informing them of their ballot order numbers. The ballot results will be published on the TD website (www.td.gov.hk) that afternoon.  Applicants can also check the ballot results by calling 2804 2600 or visiting the Driving Services Section of the TD.
