The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, concluded his visit to Europe today (December 5, London time).
In his last day of visit in London, Professor Chan first attended a breakfast roundtable hosted by Thomson Reuters, during which he had fruitful discussion with leading practitioners in the financial and banking sectors on Hong Kong's success in Renminbi (RMB) business.
He then had a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of London Stock Exchange, Mr Xavier Rolet, and exchanged views on Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and financial issues of mutual concern.
In the afternoon, Professor Chan met with the Chairman of TheCityUK's Board of Directors, Sir Gerry Grimstone, and shared with him Hong Kong's efforts in driving competitiveness.
Subsequently in a meeting with the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Mr Alan Yarrow, Professor Chan gave an account on Hong Kong's latest developments.
Before leaving London, Professor Chan had a meeting with the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Jon Cunliffe. They discussed a wide range of financial and monetary issues, including the development of offshore RMB business in Hong Kong and London.
Professor Chan arrived in London yesterday (December 4, London time), the third leg of his Europe visit, and had exchanges with official, regulators and market practitioners, including the Economic Secretary to the HM Treasury, Mrs Andrea Leadsom; and the Chairperson of European Banking Authority, Mr Andrea Enria. He also took the opportunity to attend a luncheon by the Hong Kong Association and a reception with the Hong Kong community.
Professor Chan was in Paris, Brussels and London between December 1 and 5 to promote Hong Kong's financial strengths and to forge closer ties between Hong Kong and Europe. He will be back in Hong Kong this afternoon (December 6, Hong Kong time).
