Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 3) seized 5 800 units of computer RAM and 440 computer drives valued at about $2.1 million on board an outgoing cross-boundary coach at Shenzhen Bay Control Point and arrested a person.
Customs officers mounted an anti-smuggling operation at Shenzhen Bay Control Point yesterday afternoon and intercepted an outgoing cross-boundary coach for investigation. A total of 36 paper boxes containing 5 800 units of computer RAM and 440 computer drives were concealed inside the overhead air-conditioning duct of the cross-boundary coach. The driver was arrested. He was suspected of committing the offence of attempting to export unmanifested cargo under the Import and Export Ordinance. The investigation is continuing.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
