Cluster of Rotavirus cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (December 3):

     Two healthcare staff and two infants (one male and one female, aged 10 and 11 months) in an infant ward of QEH had presented with diarrhea or vomiting symptoms since November 20. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the infants and their test results were positive to Rotavirus. The concerned baby girl and the two healthcare staff have already recovered while the baby boy is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other infants and healthcare staff in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
