Zoo education exhibition to showcase cat family
***********************************************

With the cat family (Felidae) as the theme of its roving exhibition this year, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the Zoo Education Exhibition 2014 at six of its parks, namely Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG), Tai Po Waterfront Park, Tuen Mun Park, Yuen Long Park, Kowloon Park and Hong Kong Park from this Saturday (December 6) to January 18, 2015.

The exhibition will display information panels with colourful photos of more than 10 different kinds of felines including the domestic cat, which lives closest to humans, the caracal and serval which live in grasslands, and the snow leopard, jaguar and lion. Exhibition visitors will be able to learn more about these animals and their habitats.

A spokesman for the LCSD said that the department hoped the exhibition would help enhance people's interest in animal ecology as well as their awareness of nature conservation.

The exhibition will start at the HKZBG, where it will be held from December 6 to 14. In order to make the event even more appealing, Meet-the-Zookeepers sessions and guided tours will take place during the first two days (December 6 and 7) of the exhibition there.

At the Meet-the-Zookeepers sessions, animal carers from the HKZBG will share with visitors their experience of daily primate care and animal conservation. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Garden's animals. This is the third round of Meet-the-Zookeepers sessions organised by the HKZBG.

Guided tours will also be held on December 6 and 7, during which park visitors can tour the HKZBG and see for themselves some 70 mammals, more than 300 birds and over 50 reptiles being kept there.

Visitors will find plenty to enjoy while taking part in these interactive and fun activities, the spokesman said.

Interested parties should assemble at the information counter of the HKZBG's Education and Exhibition Centre at specified hours. In addition, park visitors will also be able to join talks and take part in stall games on animal knowledge. Souvenirs will be available for distribution. All activities will be free of charge.

Please refer to the annex for information on the exhibition periods of the six parks and details of the Meet-the-Zookeepers sessions and HKZBG guided tours. Public enquiries can be made to the LCSD's Zoo and Horticulture Education Unit at 2723 6080 during office hours.
