Transcript of remarks by SED

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, at a media session after officiating at prize presentation ceremony of "CEO Parents Election" held by the Hong Kong Institute of Family Education today (November 30):

Reporter: (On the new task force set up to follow up youth issues by the Commission on Poverty yesterday)

Secretary for Education: Yesterday the major one was on the Commission on Poverty. As far as that part is concerned, we believe that the setting up of a new subcommittee to address some particular issues faced by the youth would be one of the focuses. There would be a lot of other activities going on as reported in the summit yesterday such as education opportunities, university opportunities, vocational education and better employment in future as well.

Reporter: How about tonight's public gathering (in the vicinity of the Central Government Offices in Admiralty)?

Secretary for Education: As I said earlier, it is important for everyone to understand the whole "Occupy Central" movement has been going on for more than two months now. It has brought the public severe inconvenience and a lot of people have been suffering from the disruption of public transportation services, long travelling hours and also the chaos created that might put people's lives in danger. On this particular account, my position is that I would like to appeal to everyone including the potential organisers, please do not do that. For students, please try to stay away from all those problematic and dangerous locations.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
