Police assisted bailiffs to execute the Injunction Order on Argyle Street, Mong Kok yesterday (November 25). The carriageways on Argyle Street near Portland Street were re-opened yesterday afternoon.
Later on, a large crowd of protestors assembled unlawfully in the vicinity of Portland Street, Shanghai Street, Shantung Street, Reclamation Street and Ferry Street. They confronted with Police officers at the scene and attempted to obstruct the roads again with obstacles. As such, Police took resolute actions and drove them out.
During the operation yesterday, Police arrested a total of 86 people (77 males and nine females), for offences including unlawful assembly, assaulting Police, possession of offensive weapon and obstructing Police officers. Among the arrestees, a male in possession of objects including axe, iron hammer and crowbar was arrested by Police for possession of offensive weapon. Police will investigate all cases in a determined and impartial manner and take out prosecutions according to evidence collected. Nine Police officers were injured during the operation.
Police operation against the unlawful assembly in the vicinity of Shantung Street and Dundas Street is ongoing. Police urge the people assembling unlawfully at the scene to leave immediately and not to block the roads or charge Police. Police also appeal to the public, in particular students, not to go to the above areas to avoid unnecessary injuries. They should not mix with the radicals and troublemakers and be incited or used by others to commit any illegal acts.
Police again remind journalists covering the operation, in particular when they are in between Police cordon and radical protestors, to take care of their personal safety to avoid unnecessary injuries.
Police reiterate that if anyone blocks re-opened roads or other roads, Police are duty bound to take resolute actions to safeguard public order and public safety.
