Import of poultry meat and poultry products from the Netherlands banned

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (November 24) that in view of the announcement of the Dutch authority of another H5 avian influenza outbreak in Overijssel Province, the Netherlands, and the development of H5 avian influenza outbreaks detected in various parts of the Netherlands this month, the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the country will be banned with immediate effect for protection of Hong Kong's public health.

     A CFS spokesman said, "We will continue to closely monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health on the avian influenza outbreaks and the latest situation in the country."
