Transcript of remarks by SCED at media session
**********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session after attending the launch ceremony of HKTV today (November 19):

Reporter: Besides your personal support, how can your bureau and essentially the Government also support HKTV in terms of the free (television programme service) licence application?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I think the very fact that I'm here today on the invitation of Mr Wong (the Chairman of Hong Kong Television Network Limited, Mr Ricky Wong), I'm very glad to receive that invitation and attend and witness this very joyous occasion. And I also want to encourage the staff and various parties within HKTV to produce very good quality programmes for the enjoyment of the Hong Kong public. As to HKTV's application, it will be handled by the Communications Authority in accordance with the law and procedures. As soon as they have the recommendation, they will submit it to the CE in Council (Chief Executive in Council) to consider.

Reporter: Is your bureau in support of this?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: Our bureau, being the technical bureau, will assist the CE in C (Chief Executive in Council) to provide technical support and the decision will be made by the Chief Executive in Council.
