Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Hip Hing Engineering Company Limited and Kin Luen Construction Engineering Limited were fined $20,000 and $38,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (November 18) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on February 12 this year at a construction site in Yuen Long, in which a fork-lift truck operator was trapped to death between the mast and the metal frame of the driving cabin of a fork-lift truck which was used for dumping construction waste materials.
