Fun day event returns to Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery
*****************************************************

Following the success of the fun day event held in April this year, the Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery will hold another next Sunday (November 23) with a variety of fun-filled programmes.

To add to the festive atmosphere, a fireboat water jetting display will be held. In addition, the ship's wheelhouse and engine room will be specially opened for the public to visit on that day.

Former firefighters will lead a guided tour entitled "Revisiting the Past", taking visitors back in time and sharing their experience working on the fireboat. Firefighters will also demonstrate how to use fire equipment, and there will be a live performance of Chinese and Western music.

Other popular activities including game booths, "Be a Firefighter Photo-Taking Session" and "Fireboat Stamp Art" will unleash visitors' creativity. Visitors can also take the opportunity to make use of fireboat-themed stamps to make their own little bags.

The Fireboat Alexander Grantham went into service in 1953. Before being decommissioned in 2002 it served as the flagship of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department's fireboat team, responding to fire alarms and conducting rescue operations, both in Hong Kong waters and along the nearby coastline. As well as being the first boat preserved as an historical relic in Hong Kong, it is also the largest "made in Hong Kong" item in the Hong Kong Museum of History's collection.

The fun day event is jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Fire Services Department. With a wide array of interesting programmes, the event aims to introduce the history of the fireboat to the public and raise their awareness of fire safety. Admission is free.

The fun day event will be from 10am to 6.30pm. Programmes will be conducted in Cantonese. The fireboat water jetting display is scheduled to be held at 10.30am. It may be cancelled if there are emergency firefighting and rescue operations.

The Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery is located in Quarry Bay Park. Enquiries can be made on 3580 6770, or visit the Hong Kong Museum of History's website: hk.history.museum/en_US/web/mh/whats-on/exhibition.html.
